The problem

As it stands, Exeter does not possess a student interest group that is dedicated to the discussion of case studies or promotion of consulting as a profession. This is contrary to many of the other top UK universities, which feature established, and sometimes even client-facing, consulting and/or case study interest groups. It is this glaring gap that spurred the founders to action.

The solution

To address this gap, Exeter Case & Consulting (ECC) aims to create an environment where students can collectively learn about the case study method, and explore their interest in consulting. All ECC sessions will be student-led, to foster the type of interactive environment that case study learning thrives in. In addition, ECC will attempt to do it on a weekly basis.

Stéphane Chui

Academic Subject: MA in Applied Security Strategy

Hobbies: "I mostly like to devour food and I'll replicate anything I've tried before, even if it turns into a disaster. Other than that, I like hiking in different regions because its effect is like the opposite of what kryptonite can do to Superman. Also, anything to do with the understanding of power between countries is always exciting to read about."

Reasons for Founding: "I've participated in case competitions prior to entering university. Seeing how it has benefited my own education, such programmes should be available in our university by shifting about how we are taught to what the real workplace expects from us."

Brandon Foo

Academic Subject: BSc in Economics

Hobbies: "From time to time, I enjoy hosting dinners for groups of friends, as I take on this opportunity to try out new culinary recipes and at the same time unwind and relax. I am also an avid swimmer and calisthenics enthusiast; is someone who enjoys the weekly fitness routine as I aim to whip myself back into shape. During my free time, I would usually nerd out on my couch and go through books and articles regarding financial markets and policies implementation so as to equip myself with a more well-rounded knowledge and understanding behind such studies and news."

Reasons for Founding: "Like the 2 other co-founders, I felt the need to create a learning platform that would allow university students to engage in case studies on a more regular basis. The idea behind this is so that we could collectively learn from one another, alongside with distinguished professionals from their respective fields, and be more readily prepared for case interpretation from prospective employers in the near future."

Bryan Toh

Academic Subject: BA in International Relations and Management

Hobbies: "In my free time, I follow current affairs, engage in physical training, and try my best to cook edible Singaporean cuisine."

Reasons for Founding: "I wanted to create a hitherto-unavailable outlet for Exeter students to exercise their curiosity towards business case studies and consulting, and learn from one another regarding those topics."
